Brisbane Acting Classes for Kids, Teens and Adults: What Makes the Australian Acting Academy Different

There are a lot of acting classes in Brisbane.
I know, because I've been running one since 1994. And over 31 years I've spoken to thousands of people, parents, teenagers and adults, who tried other places before finding us, or found us first and never needed to look elsewhere.
So what's different? What do people actually mean when they say the Australian Acting Academy changed them, or changed their child?
Let me try to answer that honestly.
It's not about producing performers
Most acting schools in Brisbane are built around performance. Eisteddfods. Showcases. Competition. The goal is to produce people who can perform on cue.
That's not what we do.
At the Australian Acting Academy, we use acting as a tool to help people discover who they are. The performance is a byproduct of that process, not the goal.
Parents notice this in their kids within a few weeks. Their child isn't just learning lines. They're standing differently. Speaking more clearly at home. Making eye contact. Asking questions.
Adults notice it too. They arrive guarded and leave surprised. Not because we pushed them. Because we gave them a room where it was genuinely safe to try.
The Safety Net Philosophy
Every class we run is built on a philosophy I developed over many years of working with people of all ages.
Creating safe spaces to totally support each other taking creative risks.
We call it the Safety Net Philosophy.
It means that in our rooms, it is genuinely safe to try something and have it not work. Safe to be loud. Safe to be quiet. Safe to be whoever you actually are, not whoever you think the room wants you to be.
That matters whether you're seven or seventy-seven.
Classes for every age
We run programs for children, teenagers and adults, with every program tailored to where you actually are in life, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Younger students (7-13) work in foundation classes that build confidence, listening, collaboration and creative thinking through games, improvisation and guided storytelling.
Teens (14-17) work in more advanced programs that tackle real emotional depth, authentic character work, and the kind of creative risk-taking that prepares them for whatever comes next, whether that's performance, leadership, or just navigating the world.
Adults (18+) work in a completely different environment, one that respects where you've been and what you've been carrying. Many adults tell us they didn't know what they were looking for until they found it here. What they find is the ability to speak up, to be present, to connect with other people in a room. Most of them wish they'd started years earlier.
Where we are in Brisbane
We run classes across multiple Brisbane locations, making it easy for families and individuals across the city to access what we do.
The best way to start is a trial class. One session, no commitment. You get a taste of what we do, and we get to meet you.
Most people say they knew within the first fifteen minutes. Most kids ask to come back before they've even got back to the car. Most adults wish they'd started sooner.
