Acting Camps and Holiday Workshops for Kids in Brisbane: What to Expect

Every school holidays, something happens in our studios that I genuinely never get tired of watching.

A group of kids arrives on day one, most of them strangers to each other. Some are nervous. A few are dragged in by parents who insisted they try something new. One or two are there because their best friend is coming.

By day three, you can't tell who knew who.

That's what our holiday programs do. Here's why.

Why holidays are the best time

The school term is full of social pressure. Kids arrive already cast in their roles, the funny one, the sporty one, the quiet one. Those labels are sticky.

School holidays break that pattern.

In a holiday workshop, there are no pre-existing reputations. No one knows who you were in your last class. You get to show up as whoever you choose to be.

That freedom is a powerful thing. For anxious kids, socially cautious kids, kids who have been told they're shy, it can be genuinely transformative.

What actually happens in an AAA holiday workshop

Our holiday programs are intensive but never overwhelming. We work in short, varied sessions that build energy rather than drain it.

Students work on improvisation, devising, character, storytelling and group performance. There are games, challenges, collaborative projects and always, always, the chance to take a creative risk inside a space where that risk is fully supported.

At the end of a multi-day program, there is usually a sharing session, a relaxed showing of what the group has created. Parents who attend often tell me it's one of the most extraordinary things they've watched their child do.

Who are the camps for?

Our holiday programs run for kids aged 7 through to 17. We run separate groups for different age ranges so the experience is always developmentally appropriate.

You do not need any prior acting experience to attend. In fact, many of our most memorable workshop stories involve kids who arrived with zero experience and discovered something in themselves they had no idea was there.

How to book

Every school holidays looks different. We carefully curate the activities each time so they anchor as real memories and build genuine skills. Places fill quickly, especially for popular weeks.

To see what's on offer these holidays, check current dates, locations and availability at actingacademy.com.au/holiday-workshops or call us on (07) 3171 7822.

If your child has never tried acting before, a holiday workshop is the best possible starting point. Low pressure, high energy, and something completely different from a normal school holiday.
