WHAT TO EXPECT IN TERM 1
Watch the video above to hear Brendan explain the full exciting term 1 teen acting classes Brisbane program.
This term we are leaning into the ability to create characters. Not just any characters but characters that have charisma. We explore the energy that surrounds a character and what makes us want more of it.
Every actor has the same tools with which to create characters; our mind, our voice and our body. This term our teen acting program will use and manipulate these tools to create original characters influenced by people in our daily lives. Strangers, relatives, teachers, anyone we come across are up as a source for inspiration as we use the tools of OBSERVATION AND MIMICRY.
How they walk and talk, their centre of gravity, their posture, and use of gesture will inspire us as we build our own stable of characters. Going beyond simple impersonations, we will build original characters that we will play with and perfect.
Week 1 Who Are We?
Before we can build a believable character we need to first know who we are, how do we walk, where is our centre of gravity, and what are the things WE do that make us...well US.
Week 2 Who Aren't We?
One place to start when exploring building characters, is the opposite of us. When exploring our creative potential it can be most fun to explore what is right in front of us.
Week 3 Who Can We Be?
An exciting class of exploration as you birth new characters. We have so much creative potential, yet we often hold back. This week is a safe place where you are encouraged to see who you can become?
Week 4 Build Your Stable Pt 1
Imagine if you had a stable of characters that lived inside you. Having characters that you can play and put in different circumstances makes storytelling easy. This week you will develop your own stable of characters to tuck away until you need them.
Week 5 Build Your Stable Pt 2
Bring out your character from last week & play. Put them in different situations and see what happens. THEN create a new character. It's easy, as it will be the complete opposite of the character you have created last week. This is a fun way to double your characters instantly.
Week 6 Anchoring in With Costume
As actors there is a part of us that love COSTUMES!!!!! So we are going to anchor your character into a piece of costume so, like magic, when you put it on, you become THAT character. It is a fun, practical way to play with character.
Week 7 Time to Play
You now have at least two characters, so it's time to really start to test them. .Putting your characters on their feet in impro games and letting them take over will show you just how easy it is to find their voice.
Week 8 Impro Show
This week we will practice a few games, before inviting your parents and family in to watch you transform from you into your character. Even if you are a little nervous you will be supported and walk away more confident and ready to take more creative risks.
Every Week Building The Safety Net
A big focus in all our classes this term will be the Safety Net and building a safe space for you to take creative risks and let your true self shine. So come prepared to champion your fellow acting class mates.
The Capalaba Place Hall is inside the same building as the Capalaba Library opposite the bus station. When facing the building, the carpark and entrance is on the right hand end of the building. The hall is just inside on the right hand side.
